Charles Bradley (No Time for Dreaming)

Really been digging the new Charles Bradley album on Daptone No Time For Dreaming. Bradley has a unique voice, it comes across as a hybrid of the funkiness of James Brown and Otis Redding at his most lonesome. Here is the video for the single This World is Going up in Flames in which Bradley dons a suit that can only be described at Eddie Murphy circa raw funeral wear. Its one hell of a jumper and a great song to boot.

Digging With Tom (The MC5 1965-1968)

This Bootleg captures the original dirty Detroit rock and roll band playing a handful of blues, soul, and R and B covers. Some of the songs are pretty straight covers, but others hint at the manic ballsy sound the band would capture in their first record Kick Out The Jams. The best take might be on the compilation might be the Ray Charles original I Believe to My Soul, give it a shot below.

Video of the Week (Guided by Voices Gold Star For Robot Boy)

A fragment of a Guided By Voices classic that's been stuck in my head recently. Lead singer Bob Pollard provides insight to how got he the idea for the song and a couple other GBV favorites. The story is crazy and maybe he is too but its possible that it's all just bs.
